Seven texts in his names

Seven texts were run through the same model (gemma-3-27b with a rank-16 LoRA fine-tuned on one author's 2012 forum posts) and the same sparse-autoencoder dictionary (Google's Gemma Scope 2, layer 31, 262,144 features). Each feature has two labels: Neuronpedia's published explanation, and a second explanation written by a language model that was given only the feature's activating windows and a system prompt describing the author's vocabulary. Every step of every text (an entry, a sonnet, a speech, a message) is read after exactly 256 tokens of its own preceding text, so token positions are the same across steps. Two controls accompany every count.

The two controls

Control 1: a wrong context. Each step is read a second time after 256 tokens taken from a random other step of the same work. A feature's stability is the Jaccard overlap between the sets of steps it is active in under the two reads. Activations barely move (median per-step correlation 0.90); what moves is the on/off call for features near the threshold, so the pages count only features with stability at least 0.5.

Control 2: permutation of the step order. For each feature, the longest run of active steps (single-step gaps bridged) is compared with 2,000 random placements of the same number of active steps. About one feature in twenty passes by chance, and features share steps, so each card also gives two family-level nulls: the count that passes when the whole step order is permuted at once (200 permutations), and when random matrices keep every step's number of active features and every feature's number of active steps (curveball, Strona et al. 2014). A text has temporal structure when its count exceeds both.

Reading a page

On each page: click a row of the activity chart and a panel shows that feature's label and the passages where it fires, one per step; click a step's title in the full text and the rows active in it light up. Under each co-activation cluster (the project calls them themes), the passages where its members fire together. The words on the page are the text's; the labels were written under the author's vocabulary, with the published label beside each.
