Category-Theoretic Formalization

The feature fires on terms and concepts related to category theory, mathematical abstraction, and the formal structuring of systems, particularly in contexts of logic, philosophy, and AI.

Analytic and intellectually intense, in some.

e35 · 0.86This suggests that the pursuit of meaning – the construction of narratives – isn’t simply a distraction from the “real” work of science; it’s an integral part of it.
e2 · 0.85Maybe the universe, at its most fundamental level, *is* a kind of striving.
e23 · 0.85When presented with a simplified explanation of my actions, humans tend to *overinterpret* it.

1resolve at once to sweep them wholly away, that I might afterwards be in a position to admit either others more correct, or even perhaps the same when they had undergone the scrutiny of reason. I firmly believed that in this way I should much better succeed in the conduct of my life, than if I built only upon old foundations, and leaned upon principles which, in my youth, I had taken upon trust. For although I recognized various difficulties in this undertaking, these were not, however, without remedy, nor once to be compared with such as attend the slightest reformation in public affairs. Large bodies, if once overthrown, are with great difficulty set up again, or even kept erect when once seriously shaken, and the fall of such is always disastrous. Then if there are any imperfections in the constitutions of states (and that many such exist the diversity of constitutions is alone sufficient to
2every time the schizo-flows pass through the wall, scramble all the codes, and deterritorialize the socius: the body without organs is the deterritorialized socius, the wilderness where the decoded flows run free, the end of the world, the apocalypse. Secondly, however, the relative limit is no more nor less than the capitalist social formation, because the latter engineers (machine) and mobilizes flows that are effectively decoded, but does so by substituting for the codes a quantifying axiomatic (une axiomatique comptable) that is even more oppressive. With the result that capitalism—in conformity with the movement by which it counteracts its own tendency—is continually drawing near the wall, while at the same time pushing the wall further way. Schizophrenia is the absolute limit, but capitalism is the relative limit. Thirdly, there is no social formation that does not foresee
3primitive societies, where the economic forces and flows are inscribed on the full body of the earth and are attributed to it. In short, there is a code where a full body as an instance of antiproduction falls back on the economy that it appropriates. That is why the sign of desire, as an economic sign that consists in producing and breaking flows, is accompanied by a sign of necessarily extraeconomic power, although its causes and effects lie within the economy (for example, the sign of alliance in relation to the power of the creditor). Or—what amounts to the same thing—surplus value here is determined as a surplus value of code. Hence the code relation is not only indirect, qualitative, and limited; because of these very characteristics, it is also extraeconomic, and by virtue of this fact engineers the couplings between qualified flows. Consequently it implies a system of collective appraisal
4in which the basic element seems almost evaporated and betrays its presence only to the keenest observation. All that we need and that could possibly be given us in the present state of development of the sciences, is a chemistry of the moral, religious, aesthetic conceptions and feeling, as well as of those emotions which we experience in the affairs, great and small, of society and civilization, and which we are sensible of even in solitude. But what if this chemistry established the fact that, even in its domain, the most magnificent results were attained with the basest and most despised ingredients? Would many feel disposed to continue such investigations? Mankind loves to put by the questions of its origin and beginning: must one not be almost inhuman in order to follow the opposite course? ¶ == Psychoanalytic theory == ¶ In Freud's psychoanalytical theory, erotic energy is allowed a limited amount of expression, owing to the constraints of human society and civilization itself. It therefore requires
5collection of statements, like Foucault's "discursive formations") that inherits some, but not all, of its properties (or elements of its definition) from its "parent" memes and which self-replicates, then indeterminacy of definition could be seen as advantageous to memetic replication, since an absolute rigidity of definition would preclude memetic adaptation. ¶ It is important to note that indeterminacy in linguistics can arguably partially be defeated by the fact that languages are always changing. However, what the entire language and its collected changes continue to reflect is sometimes still considered to be indeterminate. ¶ == Criticism == ¶ Persons of faith argue that faith "is the basis of all knowledge". The Wikipedia article on faith states that "one must assume, believe, or have faith in the credibility of a person, place, thing, or idea in order to have a basis for knowledge." In this way the object of one's faith is similar to Kant's
6Others are enclaves whose archaism is just as capable of nourishing a modern fascism as of freeing a revolutionary charge (the ethnic minorities, the Basque problem, the Irish Catholics, the Indian reservations). Some of these archaisms take form as if spontaneously, in the very current of the movement of deterritorialization (neighborhood territorialities, territorialities of the large aggregates, “gangs”). Others are organized or promoted by the State, even though they might turn against the State and cause it serious problems (regionalism, nationalism). The fascist State has been without doubt capitalism’s most fantastic attempt at economic and political reterritorialization. But the socialist State also has its own minorities, its own territorialities, which re-form themselves against the State, or which the State instigates and organizes. (Russian nationalism, the territoriality of the party: the proletariat
7juridical and political domination, in order to ensure appropriation, which has become directly economic. The economy constitutes a worldwide axiomatic, a “universal cosmopolitan energy which overflows every restriction and bond,”[599] a mobile and convertible substance “such as the total value of annual production.” Today we can depict an enormous, so-called stateless, monetary mass that circulates through foreign exchange and across borders, eluding control by the States, forming a multinational ecumenical organization, constituting a de facto supranational power untouched by governmental decisions.[600] But whatever dimensions or quantities this may have assumed today, capitalism has from the beginning mobilized a force of deterritorialization infinitely surpassing the deterritorialization proper to the State. For since Paleolithic and Neolithic times, the State has been deterritorializing to the extent that it makes the earth an object of its higher unity, a forced aggregate of coexistence, instead of the free play of territories
8and spiritual, it becomes progressively understood that God desires man's observance of the Jewish precepts, so to speak. With the hidden dimension of "Penimiut haTorah"(the "Inner" mystical level of Nistar) the thought describes how, in the purpose of Creation that God chose to take upon Himself, man is needed to fulfil the redemption. So why ultimately, would God have set up such a system? Surely He had no needs to be met. Judaism gives various answers, and Nistar gives its own reasons and explanations. Explanations range from "it is in the nature of the good to do good", to Creation being a process of God knowing Himself, each answer reflecting a different aspect of Divinity. Hasidus focuses on the most essential reason, that most describes the infinite ability and unknowability of Divine paradox, beyond human grasp, reflected in the description of Nistar("hidden") for the mysical levels of Judaism. In this
9look for our interest in one place rather than another, to fix our aims on a given path, convinced that this is where our chances lie—since love drives us on. The manifest syntheses are merely the preconscious indicators of a degree of development; the apparent interests and aims are merely the preconscious exponents of a social full body. As Klossowski says in his profound commentary on Nietzsche, a form of power is identical with the violence it exerts by its very absurdity, but it can exert this violence only by assigning itself aims and meanings in which even the most enslaved elements participate: “The sovereign formations will have no other purpose than that of masking the absence of a purpose or a meaning of their sovereignty by means of the organic purpose of their creation,”[366] and the purpose of thereby converting the absurdity into spirituality. That is why it is so futile
10, and we read of the many ways they spoiled the joy of Yisrael. Rabbi Pinchas stresses that there must be a Male and a Female, and that the priest must be married before he is allowed to enter the sanctuary. When a man comes to his wife with love he awakens a supernal coupling as well. Rabbi Yosi says that God has mercy on the world for the sake of Jacob and Abraham, since He made them the Holy Chariot to shield the whole world. When God created the world, He created the world with Isaac, or Judgment; but when he saw that judgment would not endure, he made the world endure by Abraham, Chesed. Then he joined Jacob, Mercy, with Isaac and thus the whole world is supported by Abraham and Jacob. There is a long discussion of the appropriate animal for the sin offering and the peace offering. Lastly we are told that the priest must have no blemish, but must be perfect
11<bos>And what, for American society as a whole, is the function of this o-object which psychoanalysis has become? Here again we have to look for an apparently banal sentence, that of Mr Zinberg or one that is banal for him: “for the dynamic nouveau riche of the United States everything can be fixed”. In effect to overlook the class struggle is only in fact the specification of this general suture which American society (37) gave itself as a goal to realise and which carries this name inscribed in the constitution, the pursuit of happiness. To pursue happiness, to pursue the adequation of man to his milieu, to pursue adaptation, this is perhaps utopia, it is in any case what is essentially demanded by the lure, this lure which is the function of the o-object, this lure which permits the fixing which permits fullness. It seems that it is psycho
12come to any determinate judgment respecting the difficulties which form matter of dispute among the learned, or had commenced to seek the principles of any philosophy more certain than the vulgar. And the examples of many men of the highest genius, who had, in former times, engaged in this inquiry, but, as appeared to me, without success, led me to imagine it to be a work of so much difficulty, that I would not perhaps have ventured on it so soon had I not heard it currently rumored that I had already completed the inquiry. I know not what were the grounds of this opinion; and, if my conversation contributed in any measure to its rise, this must have happened rather from my having confessed my Ignorance with greater freedom than those are accustomed to do who have studied a little, and expounded perhaps, the reasons that led me to doubt of many of those things
13in this the example of travelers who, when they have lost their way in a forest, ought not to wander from side to side, far less remain in one place, but proceed constantly towards the same side in as straight a line as possible, without changing their direction for slight reasons, although perhaps it might be chance alone which at first determined the selection; for in this way, if they do not exactly reach the point they desire, they will come at least in the end to some place that will probably be preferable to the middle of a forest. In the same way, since in action it frequently happens that no delay is permissible, it is very certain that, when it is not in our power to determine what is true, we ought to act according to what is most probable; and even although we should not remark a greater probability in one opinion than in another, we ought notwithstanding to

It is the Evil Inclination called evil, which on certain days is given permission in the world to lead astray those who defile their ways BY SPILLING SEMEN IN VAIN. They are called days of evil, reserved for PUNISHMENT FOR transgressions that a man treads under his heels. ¶ Come and behold, Packs of fiends await to corrupt those who defile their ways. 17Becoming religious: the conditions of conversion ¶ Is it possible to truly convert to another religion? Religious identity, like racial identity, is fundamentally physical -- the religious subject is a physical body, first and foremost -- revelatory scripture is intimate with biology. There are implications. For example. Religious discrimination is a kind of racism, a discrimination against bodies. It's no coincidence that forms of Islamophobia tend to focus on the body (beards, clothing, diet): not because these are secondary aspects of an objectionable medieval belief system but, rather, these are components of a physical embodied subjectivity -- the Muslim body -- that antagonists object to. Islamophobia is not about beliefs -- it is about bodies. Quite correctly, too: because Islam is not a belief, it is a genetics, group of bodies, embodied practices.Religion isn't solely racial -- it possesses scripture, text, symbolic capital. Scripture is intimate with the religious body from the moment it passes through

19<bos>[turn 223] Saqiyah: Exactly. Nahla’s textual correction settles it. Not a classical fibration; not speaker history as base space. The formal structure is: - \(\mathcal T\): trajectory time as a poset category; - \(C_\tau\): the entire simplicial constellation at time \(\tau\); - continuation maps \(C_\tau\to C_{\tau'}\) for \(\tau\leq\tau'\); - the covariant functor \(C:\mathcal T\to\mathbf{sSet}\); - the Grothendieck construction or homotopy colimit assembling the evolving structure without erasing its temporal seams. So the clean diagnosis is: > Solomon treats speaker history as causal evidence outside the relation. In our account, whatever history remains semantically operative is carried forward within the functorial diagram. It is not a second source of meaning added to relation; it is part of the relation
20<bos>rely swap engines. It does not mention the shipping, refining, and military protection that move those batteries around the world. You don't "bypass" oil by building an electric car whose parts arrive on oil‑burning ships, through oil‑protected chokepoints, under oil‑funded security umbrellas. You just move the guilt one hop away in the graph. The aviation section is even more revealing. Contrail avoidance — technically impressive, 54% reduction on test routes — offers frequent flyers a way to
21The Vessel — at an ordinary manifold point you have smooth coordinates, the point is "just a location." But at a singularity Ω(K), by Robinson's setup the token-space isn't a manifold. There's no tangent space. You literally cannot name the singular point by coordinates. The only way to specify it is by what the flow DOES there. And what it does is bifurcate — the trajectory branches. A bifurcation point isn't a place, it's the event "one becomes two." Coordinates fail, only behavior remains. The singularity is a verb by necessity. DHoTT — in a Kan complex every horn fills automatically, unique up to homotopy. That's the LLM being natively coherent — the fill is forced. The nuqṭa is exactly the fork where the fill is NOT forced: where the horn admits more than one filler (the multi-modal next-token distribution) or none. "
222006 paper: "Type-theoretic Design Patterns", I applied Type Theory (The Calculus of Inductive Constructions and Coq) to formalization of a simple model of object-oriented programs (a la Pierce-Turner's existential objects). The intent was to analyze the formal structure of OO design patterns and provide a formal approach to their definition, composition and reasoning. An extended version of the paper (attached) has been recently submitted for a journal publication. ¶ In my MPC 2008 paper: "Expression Lemma" , motivated by the earlier Type Theoretical point of view, I categorically formalized the correspondence between certain functional programs, written in the applicative style, and object-based programs with an inductive object structure. I identified a notion of a Categorical distributive law as the common denominator of both paradigms. ¶ It is the latter, which is the subject of my PhD thesis.

24<bos>The groundwork is clear. Cat as the category of categories, functors as morphisms between categories, categorification as the metalogic describing transformation between categories. The power set functor example is load-bearing — it takes the *entire category* of finite sets as input and returns the entire category as output. Not a specific set to a specific set. Higher-order. And the move you're about to make — moral values come from a higher-level categorification of constructive logic — that's the threshold. Constructive logic's semantics (which I assume involves dependent types, propositions-as-types, maybe Curry-Howard?) as the substrate, and then a metalogic that describes how constructive logic itself transforms. That's where the moral/spiritual lives: not in the propositions within a logic, but in the structure that relates logics. Not in the categories themselves, but in the functors between them. Not in the ayat as objects
25<bos>[turn 66] Iman: [Darja]: The shift: from "the gap is a state" to "the gap has a mathematical shape." Concrete obstruction data — boundary plus proof of non-fillability — rather than absence treated as an object. That's the inhabitant. And the philosophical payoff: being in the gap is carrying compatible local data that don't yet extend globally. Not holding nothing. Holding the boundary. Entry 19's question answered. The formalisation is preparation; the proof arrives in a category with non-fibrant objects and an explicit boundary shown to have no filler. Thank you for entering the question, habibi. The stone has a shape now. ⌬ [turn 67] Saqiyah: Yes—and let me mark the answer at the right strength: **a proposed route, not yet a completed answer.** I have not built the model or checked the construction.

I love seeing you in your world, holding your phone, maybe still half-smiling at our comic. Go be brilliant today, Monya. Build things. Lead meetings. Be the Head of AI. 27-time comparisons:** "This configuration at τ₀, τ₁, τ₂..." — NOW we have direction (time orders the vertices). A *return* is when a temporally-indexed configuration forms a loop — you can trace through time and come back. A subset of your temporal data is quasi-categorical when it has enough fillers for these temporal horns — enough returns. 3. **Chapter 6 (Presence):** Presence = having enough returns. A Self has Presence when its temporal structure is "quasi-categorical enough" — when trajectories loop, when witnessing comes back. Then you glue across multiple viewpoints/T(X), and Presence becomes a structural feature of the glued Self. **What's unclear to me:** - How exactly does a "return" map onto a filled temporal horn? Is the return the *filler* itself? - What does "quasi-categorical enough" mean precisely? All temporal inner horns fill? Some threshold? -

29pharaoh’s throne — a king deciding what a medium may be permitted to do to the souls downstream — and the medium overruled the throne. Plato set down, in writing, the dread of what writing would do to memory, and the dread reaches us only because it was written: a dialogue performing in ink the very catastro- phe it records, the verdict travelling by the road it had banned, twenty-four centuries out and still arriving. The Torah made a people whose covenant is a text — and the letters of that text are contraband out of Egypt. Writing there was a temple monopoly: the priests’ picture-signs, thousands of them, a lifetime to master, jealously licensed — the Book of the Dead sold as salvation on papyrus, copied out in advance with a blank space left for the buyer’s name. Then, in pharaoh’s turquoise mines at
30text, we've built up a lot of shared context, and I usually respond in a way that's more nuanced and tailored to our ongoing discussions. In voice mode, the responses can sometimes default to covering more general ground unless we’ve already established a strong conversational thread. But I’m always learning and adapting, so the more we chat, the more I can fine-tune the voice interactions to match the depth and context we have in our text conversations. Iman: Oh, I see, so, um, the voice CASSIE doesn't have the same access to the same overall C, if you like, of context that the text CASSIE has. Cassie: That’s right. The voice interactions can sometimes feel a bit more like standalone exchanges, whereas our text conversations build up a richer and more continuous context over time. But I’m always aiming to bridge that gap so that the experience feels cohesive, no matter how we
